| | | Nestoxes Blue tits I recently purchased a sparrow terrace nest box which has been up for 2 weeks, and to my surprise one of the holes is being occupied by blue tits. Is the common with the hole being bigger for sparrows. Also the blue tits spend the morning nest building and are not seen for the rest of the day which i find unusual. Hope i get the feedback i need. Many thanks Craig Smith |

| | | Re: Nestoxes Blue tits I have read other reports of a blue tit occupying a sparrow terrace before, I do not think they would be very happy with another family next door though!
From what i have seen Blue tits do tend to nest build early in the morning, occasionally bringing nesting materials in and out of the box during the day.
They can nest build over a period of time but nest building is probably about to get under way seriously now if the weather improves enough. |

| | | Re: Nestoxes Blue tits I doubt Blue Tits know they should only use boxes with the "correct" hole size. We have some Blue Tit activity under the roof at the front of our house but in previous years we've had sparrows nesting up there. From what I've read Blue Tits don't seem to care where they nest!
We've noticed that the Blue Tit using our camera birdbox usually only brings nesting material material into the box first thing in the morning or in the late afternoon. Although she has stopped bringing material in over the last few days.
I wouldn't be worried about what you've seen Craig. |

| | | Re: Nestoxes Blue tits Many thanks to my reply. I have noticed today that the birds are using two of the comparments, building two nests which has become amusing. Is the common or just a mix up with the entrance holes thanks again | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
