| | | Dawn Chorus living on the edge of a very busy city in the East Midlands the sound of the dawn chorus isnt something that you hear very often, if at all these days but i was woken by it this morning before first light. The stillness of the morning and perhaps lack of traffic sound or the normal background thud and crash of local industry through it being a public holiday has made it a very moving and magical experience.
At one point it was as if there were layers of Blackbirds all declaring their patches and a distant Song Thrush added to the throng and made me realise that even in such an industrial and urban context elements of the natural world continue to thrive. |

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus I woke up to the sound of the dawn chorus a couple of days ago.
My wife had left the bedroom windows wide open.
Fabulous sound! Always amazes me. |

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus Yes the dawn chorus is one of the highlights of my day(but not so much if I haven't slept though ) In very urbanized areas in Southampton there is often a good chorus of Blackbirds, which reside in estate shrub beds there in good numbers, where all else is concrete and dull.Blackbird song is one of my favs.

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus we hardly get anything in the garden, our feeder sprouting will testify to that but the number of birds singing at 5.30 in a morning amazes me that they havent found my food that ive put out. counted at least 5 species all going for it. |

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus My bedroom window backs onto a large area of back gardens, lots of which are quite nicely allowed to get on with their own thing, and the chorus has being going well for 4 or more weeks now. The head of my bed ia right by the window, so I get a good blast. Wrens are particularly noisy, and often chirp up about 4 feet from my ear.
One thing that made me quite sad in the very late years of my fathers life was that he said he could see a wren a couple of metres away, singing at full volume, but couldn't hear a thing. Enjoy it now, it doesn't always last.
