Owls Question

What's the best time of day or night to see owls ?
On Thursday night , after midnight , I heard a lot of owls calling. I'd love to actually see them and I know roughly where the calling was coming from.
They were Tawny Owls from what I heard but there may be Barn Owls in the area too.

Early evening is always a good time for most owls, after their days rest, as soon as the light starts to fail they are out hunting, often i saw a Barn Owl when out with the dog, which had made its home in a box provided in my local allotments, frequently when i go out to shut the greenhouses i see another traversing the field completely silently, they are a beautiful sight..
