| | | Long tailed tits We see plenty of long tailed tits in nearby hedgerows and trees - I do not want to hijack the thread about the lack of long tailed tits.
Last week, in Taunton, I met this one at very close quarters, quite the nearest I have ever been; and so obliging.
Colin

| | | Re: Long tailed tits One of the few birds that will land in the small tree we have while you are stood next to it! Quite fearless.
Never do it while I've got my camera in my hand though |

| | | Re: Long tailed tits We moved house last July to a more rural suburban location, backing onto a wildlife friendly golf course, and from January we've had more and more long tail tits. They tend to come in gangs.
We set out sunflower hearts, peanuts and fat balls. The long tail tit is the only bird that prefers the fat balls, whilst the Greenfinches go for the sunflower hearts, although they eat one and chuck two to the ground, probably to help the dunnocks and robins! Our visiting long tails are also very tolerant of humans.
However, my favourites are the Coal Tits. They seem bolder than most other feeding birds, even in decent weather. They are the first to try out a new feeder and boy are they quick. |

Colin | Hi Colin,
The LTT is one of the most common birds to visit our garden and as you say Colin I find them 'so obliging' and always ready to pose for the camera. I also notice that after re-filling the feeders the LTTs are the first to return sometimes landing within arms reach.
