| | | Mediterranean Gull I took a drive to the seafront today and had a bag of chips for my lunch.
Plentry of Gulls about so I threw the odd chip out for them.
To my surprise this pair quickly arrived on the scene to join in the mini feast so I threw most of the chips out to keep them close.
Didn't have much to eat but got a few nice pics. |

| | | Re: Mediterranean Gull Wow, I hadnt realised how beautiful med gulls are.
y'know I hear southend is famous for them, but they're just one of the species which eludes me every time!
hope all is good

John | If you get a chance, take a visit to Rye Harbour towards the end of this month + there should be good numbers nesting on the pool islands with Black-headed Gulls + terns. Also plenty of migrants there too. |

| | | Re: Mediterranean Gull I remember many years ago struggling to tell the difference between Black-headed Gulls (or chocolate coloured headed Gulls) and Mediterranean Gulls (truly black headed Gulls)
Fortunately now ID is relatively straightforward for me especially if I see the stunning adult birds as per snake's excellent photos.
Ukwildlifeo .... Southend seafront is a regular site now for Mediterranean Gulls especially during the winter months when up to 100 birds are accompanied by Rossi the Ring-billed Gull.

| | | Re: Mediterranean Gull excellent images as per usual snake, especially the in-flight ones! i've only seen one of these before, but always check groups of gulls just in case (always look for white wing tips mosty - is this the best way?)
