| | | Local birders Hi I am looking for local birders in or around Glossop who wouldn't mind sharing some of their knowledge with myself,I enjoy going out on my own but sometimes get a bit confussed as to what i'm actually looking at.My wife likes to come with me at times but insists on bringing our dogs with her,and two manic jack russels scare everything away long before I get to see them |

| | | Re: Local birders Would love to Shaun but I live miles away. If you ever come down to Dorset though let me know and I'll take you around my local patch.

| | | Re: Local birders Shaun, I'm not far from you, but wouldn't say I have that much local knowledge I'm afraid, tend to go away from Glossop when birding to be honest.
You might want to have a look on the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust website for a few places to visit though, including Brockholes Wood up at Crowden and Long Clough, which is on my doorstep. Plenty of others a short drive away though. DWT - Wildlife Reserves |

| | | Re: Local birders Cheers Richard I will have a look at the places you suggested my local spot is Swallows wood in Hollingworth which is a great place to go but I am looking for something a little bit different,I don't mind driving to places to see other things of interest. |

| | | Re: Local birders From Glossop how about a drive over the Snake to the Derwent Valley? It has goshawks, buzzards, crossbills amongst other commoner stuff. There are also ring ouzels on the moors and the re-introduced black grouse if you are lucky.
If you want any details let me know.
Regards, Chris |

Funilly enough I was talking to one of the Rangers about the Black Grouse only yesterday, they don't seem to be sure if there are any still in Upper Derwent now. I've heard of sightings over Chatsworth way more recently, was planning to have a little look this Spring time permitting.
Saw three Mountain Hare back of Derwent Edge yesterday though.. lovely! |
