| | | how to communicate with newbies i came upon this forum whilst checking out about the blue tit in my garden, is my first forum, i dont quite know where i should be to ask questions, does anybody out there care about newcomers, or are you all so educated and stuck in to your very own wild about britain things that you can not communicate with the leading most destroying animal in your kingdom, the human being. well i guess only time and responses will tell. |

Is this just a general moan, or does one have something specific to ask?

I don't think I quite understand your penultimate sentence. I've read and re-read your previous four posts and subsequent responses, but can't see how you what's made you feel aggrieved. You did however post your question in a more ' General' thread about Blue Tits' investigations of nesting boxes. I always start my own thread, as in my experience you get more replies that are specifically targetted to your own question. One that is open to everyone to post in about their own experience tend to move on quickly, and individual posts asking questions quite undeliberately are overlooked. I'm equally guilty of that!
I hope you stick around
Take care, Jason

I've racked my brains for an alternative for John Betjeman's "Come friendly bombs and rain on Slough", but can't think of a word that rhymes with Watford!
Jim (also from Watford)

Your thread title caught my eye and of course, I had to see what you had to say!
I'm not quite sure where you're coming from, perhaps someones upset you or have an issue with communication on this forum.
I joined WAB as a newbie a couple of years ago as we all did and at first I was a bit overawed at the breadth of knowledge on here. It took a bit of time before I ventured an opinion and even longer to start my first thread.
Since joining I've learnt so much and come to appreciate aspects of natural history I would have never considered. There are so many selfless and helpful people here that it's almost obligatory to log on every day to what's going on!
It's not all about being educated to a particular level - we've all got something to offer and something to learn. That's one opportunity in life that never stops - the chance to learn.
From what I've seen, newbies get loads of help here but they have to ask. The more experienced people cannot guess what help is needed and the newbie has to ask. It's the same in any organisation we might join, we start at the beginning and usually pick things up quickly by watching, listening and asking.
Sorry if I've misunderstood you, if you want to ask questions as a newbie about any wildlife related subject - fire away - I'm willing to wager you'll get a great deal of helpful replies.
Good luck. AshLee - I posted a thread two days ago and haven't had a single reply! I thought it might be interesting but hey, obviously not!

Jim (from Watford) | Oi watch it Jim, I LOVE Watford! Brilliant for the shops, and then there are the woods, and it's all free to get to too. Bargain!

| | | Re: how to communicate with newbies well hello mrbright on here its mainly about birds and people can be very helpful, nobody knows everything, and you can ask anything you like or put your point of view across whenever you feel like it, if some dont reply straight away they could be at work or college , school , or on holiday but hopefully you will enjoy the forum. other topics can be found on the posts at the side. rossy |
