Magpie behaviour

Accross from me we have a conifer bush, and a Magpie keeps stuffing bread amongst other things into it, would it be nesting in there or has it got a larder in there or is there some other reason for this odd behaviour

it might be lining a nest, they are building now, never seen a magpie make a larder!
But they are quite clever birds - keep an eye on them and see what happens.............

Would have said for storage as the Magpies here do the same but usually bury bits of bread etc in the soil or under a stone and return at a later date.

The clever magpies watch their friends hiding the food then when they have gone go and help themselves.
May be a nest in there , but its usuall evident.

yes i agree with jb it will be stocking up a larder, if the other items are food beside the bread there is nothing surer. rossy
