As I'm still recovering from the operation I had a couple of weeks ago, I'm having to make do with being taken out for short drives now and again.
Yesterday afternoon, we drove up Rowsley Bar and then travelled Eastwards over the tops, as I was sure I had seen a Curlew in one of the fields a few days before.
We pulled over and sure enough, around 8 Curlews (I'm sure there were more hiding in the grassy tufts) were in the fields. A couple of them landed fairly close to the side of the road allowing us really good views, before they took off again, calling to each other as they flew to opposite fields.
It was great to watch them!
There were a few Lapwings there too, treating us to an arial display while they made that lovely noise of theirs.
And to top it off, I saw and heard my first Skylarks of the year too!
Not bad for half an hour sat in the car!
