Sand martins?
We went to Yorkshire Wildlife Park yesterday, and as we were leaving we saw what I thought they were our first swallows of the year, but they were too brown so is it possible they were Sand Martins already?

probably were sand martins. There has been a few about over the last couple of weeks here in norfolk and swallows are now coming along too.

Your description fits Sand Martins better + there have been quite a few around, though the first Swallows have been recorded too.

Yes, I thinks Sand Martins, as House Martins are not due until April

Sand martins are usually regarded as the earliest hirundines.
