| | | Slovian Grebes Has any one seen a Slovian grebe this year. Been keeping and eye out for them on a loch not to far from me, where they raised a few chicks successfully last year, but not returned yet this year.
Am I little early or has the harsh winter returned their delay? |

| | | Re: Slovian Grebes They should be around by now. I have had them as early as 22 Feb on one occasion not too far away from you at Loch Ruthven.
We have had one here in the Midlands for a few weeks now.

John | I've not been down to Loch Ruthven recently, difficult to get close for photography there!!! Although they are more than likely there.
Good to hear they are nesting down south, hopefully its just the bad winter thats holding them up further north. I'll be checking again this weekend. |

| | | Re: Slovian Grebes They are not nesting down this way. I don't think that any nest further south than Scotland anyway. I only mentioned that one had been here in the Midlands (near Worcester) for a few weeks.
I have had them quite close at Loch Ruthven, especially relatively near the car park where the path to the hide goes fairly close to the water, but that is usually a bit later in the year. Certainly close enough to photograph.

| | | Re: Slovian Grebes We've had at least 3 in London recently. As John says I'm pretty sure all the UK breeding birds are north of the border. |

| | | Re: Slovian Grebes My mistake, the grebes do only nest North of the border.
Loch Ruthven is a great place to visit, but as a 'honeypot' site I find it can get a little busy, and the other loch I am aware of, although has a lot of walkers wondering past, is a lot smaller and I have found an area that is not used heavly so shot be given the peace and quite to get the images I require.
I'm not giving up on Loch Ruthven as a location, maybe with a longer lense, it would be more benificial to me. It's certainly closure to me than the other loch I have in mind.
