| | | First post and swallows Hi all, first post on this forum so hello to everyone. Went to a local venue at weekend (Start point, Devon) and saw 3 swallows coming in from sea ward. Also saw a male Wheatear, great to see the summer birds arriving but sorry to see the wildfowl and waders leaving.

| | | Re: First post and swallows Welcome to WAB John, I hope you like it here!
I haven't spotted any of our summer visitors yet but one or two other members have seen their first swallows too so I'm sure it won't be long.

| | | Re: First post and swallows Welcome! Always exciting to see the new arrivals. I don't tend to get sad over the winter birds leaving- though I do enjoy them very much.
The one bird I do feel sad about leaving is when the Swift departs (I know they've yet to arrive) as I feel summer is on the way out! |

| | | Re: First post and swallows This is my first post. I have seen 3 swallows today (9:45am) sitting together on a wire in Wybunbury, South Cheshire. Last year I saw one about 6 miles north of here on 1st April and I thought they would be much later this time with all the bad weather. Maybe no one told them about it!
Has anyone else seen them this far north?
No other Summer visitors sighted or heard yet. |

| | Re: First post and swallows Hi, this is my message since registering.................
Over the last 5 days, i.e. from 16th April 2010, we have seen the first swallows in the area where we live, Avenue Road/Newton Road, Rushden, Northamptonshire. They have been perched on the phone wires. Hoping to hear, and maybe even see, the first cuckoos soon............... |

| | | Re: First post and swallows Writing from S Cheshire. House martins too have arrived now, about 10 days ago. Chiffchaffs heard for about a week, still listening for cuckoos. Last year I didn't hear any at all - very sad. |
