| | Bird ID help please This odd bird appeared in the garden briefly, looking bewildered and as though it had just been dragged through a hedge backwards - I wondered if it had been in a fight.
I've usually only got blue tits, finches, nuthatches and woodpeckers that come to feed, and it wasn't any of those. Bigger than a blue tit but smaller than a blackbird, sort of dumpy shaped - short wings and tail and a round body. Also had a very ruffled appearance round it's head!!
It was a uniform brown colour - as far as I could see, that's why it stood out so much against the others.

Reason: Forgot colour

| | | Re: Bird ID help please Hmm - had a look at greenfinches -if they are the same size as chaffinches, bull finches etc, it was bigger than that.
No cats here, mine are not allowed out cos of the birds - but I do seem to have a lot of fights between birds going on - one of the nuthatches was killed by something that wasn't a predator - and I still have two nuthatches - so I wondered??
The tits scrap so much they sometimes fall on my head when I am hanging up new food! |

| | | Re: Bird ID help please It might have been a dunnock - the body shape is right for that - and could have looked darker because it was all fluffed up. What size are they?? |
