Am very amused by the magpies (which I have a soft spot for I confess). Last year I watched them struggle with building a very precarious nest at the top of quite a thin tree. I wondered if they would reuse it, but no - they are now struggling even more on an even weedier tree nearby. Maybe a different pair of course. Do they ever reuse nests?
They are breaking off large twigs (some a foot or more) from my big flowering cherry to do it, but frequently drop them. No wonder I get very few flowers at the top - I have been blaming the bullfinches!
They are working together to get the twigs on - quite impressive really.
Wow - just seen one with a twig at least 2 to 3 foot long!
