| | | Strange duck Strange duck(s) been visiting our pond/ domestic ducks in S Devon not seen anything like them before -escapees?? One comes back every day - well for last week 2 initially
Nothing like it in my books or web
small Mallard size
green sheen black head with lighter mask around bill/face
pinky/peach tinge to flank dark grey blach wing feathers forming a patch above peach/ pink flank
white bar then brown bar to tail
darkish feet legsjavascript :void(0)
dark bill
grey barred chest
I have taken photos but don't know how to post them have tried just tried again got as far as a few thumbnails have no idea where they are what to do next

Looks like you've found out how to post your images now (although I'd already looked at them in the images section!).
Your duck is a Chiloe Wigeon from South America - these are common in captivity and frequently escape.

| | | Re: Strange duck I remember seeing one in the wild last year in Scotland. As Roy says they are common in collections. Interestingly Eurasion x American Wigeon hybrids can look a bit like this species. |
