Please help identify my mystery bird

Hi,

Today I observed a bird that I cannot identify.

My first impression of it was that it was a parrakeet because of the size (smaller and thinner than a blackbird) and the head shape.

It was perched openly in a tree.

Location was Bristol centre.

Colour was solid black with bright yellow under wings (maybe belly).

Not sure about tail.

Flight was straight and fast.

I don't think that it was a Golden Oriele because the colour of it was too black.

It wouldn't be a Golden Oriole as they don't usually arrive until late May + have much more yellow than the bird you describe. They are pretty scarce too.

Your description doesn't match any native bird. I wonder if it really was black or perhaps a trick of the light?

I'm pretty sure about the colour as it flew overhead which was when I got a look at the yellow patches.

I've no better suggestions other than to note that when flying overhead many birds look black against the sky, when against a darker background colours jump out.

Could it have been a budgerigar (from size and shape)? Not sure about the black, but maybe as suggested the black is not a true representation.

Did it have a hook beak or a straight one? That will then say if its a parakeet or not.
