Next time round when you buy your feeders...(or ask for them as presents? gifts?) try and get more sturdy (although slightly more expensive) metal cage ones....not plastic or wood if you have a squirrel raider!)

He/she did do some damage but hasn't returned since (this was last summer). We really wasn't expecting to have a squirrel in our garden

I bet your baffles cost more than my empty 'pop' bottle!

Jim | But my baffles protect four feeders - and could protect several more if I added extra "arms" to the feeder pole! They also keep squirrels off the bird table - and the tablecam, which is pole-mounted. |

I'll put a photo' up sometime of it!

| | | Re: Feeders Wrecked no matter what we tried a few years back the local Grey Squirrel population just saw it has a challenge and seemed to take great 'pleasure and glee' in seeing how fast they could undo our hard work . Sometimes once they had wrecked the feeders they would leave them totally alone for a few days....maybe to see what we would put in place for their 'entertainment'
In the end we found only metal feeder types slowed them down for a while but they found chomping through the cables or even branches they hung from was much more 'productive'.....it gave us and them hours of 'fun' in the quest to out-do each other until we gave up and threw in the towell and just put a large feeding station in place instead. They then would sit and scoff amongst the birds or chase them off until they could only flop off the sides content, stuffed and bloated. We moved a few months after so maybe now someone else has the problem
When i lived in Cardiff in the 90's i even saw a Grey Squirrel scale a three storey building and leap off a windowsill to get to a feeder and for a few days it did the same thing and chewed away at the suspending cable until it fell to the ground. The Squirrel then jumped back onto the windowsill and scaled back down to scoff the contents.

I've seen them time and again trying and falling off. The open end of the bottle makes it too flexible to grip. It's also too great a diameter and too slippery. I've had one on a feeder for five years and never seen one get past.
