Hi ALL.
I came across a great book recently. It's called The Wildlife Companion (and is subtitled 'A Think Book'). It's basically a collection of interesting facts and trivia about all types of wildlife
Really fascinating. Would make a great Xmas present. Here's a sample of some of its gems, a quote from Thoreau:
"I love Nature partly because she is not man, but a retreat from him. None of his institutions control or pervade her. There a different kind of right prevails. In her midst I can be glad with an entire gladness. If this world were all man, I could not stretch myself, I should lose all hope. He is constraint, she is freedom to me. He makes me wish for another world. She makes me content with this."
The inside cover reads:
"For anyone who has ever heard a bird sing, watched a moth flutter against the light, or ambled through a bluebell wood, and wondered, just momentarily, how such a diverse and beautiful natural world could possibly have come about. Just leaf through the pages and you'll soon discover:
How Aristotle cured elephants of insomnia.
What a Campsicnemius charliechaplini is.
The difference between a stoat and a weasel.
How ladybirds retract their wings.
How to say 'blackbird' in Klingon.
The real truth about lemmings and maylies.
How Subbuteo got its name.
...and over 500 more animal amazements, ornithilogical oddities and botanical beauties."
Anyway, there you go. BTW I am not getting a commission to market this book(!!). Just thought I'd share it with you all.
Cheers...
