Red-Necked Grebe - Langold Park

Hello

Pleased to say this bird decided to stay around till I finished my night shifts so I could go and have a look. Only about 10 mins from home as well. The throngs had died down from the weekend so got a a good view of the Red-Necked Grebe and a couple of pics. The bird is listed on birdguides so I don't think I am breaking any rules by posting this.

Does this make a twitcher now!

Sorry if this thread has been done but just had to rebuild the PC.

It's been a while since I last saw a Red-necked Grebe- I've seen all the other regular grebes this year. Nice photo. They are stunning in breeding plumage.

Guess you have twitched this, but I don't think this makes you a fully qualified twitcher.

I don't twitch in general (did to some degree in the past) as I don't own a car- but did twitch a couple of London firsts recently- the Brown Shrike at the end of last year + a couple of weeks back the Dusky Warbler.

Like aeshna says, you've twitched this bird but that doesn't really make you a twitcher.
If you make a trip specifically to see a bird that has turned up then you are twitching (even though in your case it was only a local twitch!) - most brdwatchers will do this occasionally but comparatively few reach the 'fully fledged' stage where they will drop everything and head for the other end of the country at a moments notice

Unfortunately the media are unable, or unwilling, to understand that 'birdwatcher' does NOT necessarily equal 'twitcher'.
