Even though Herring gulls are at times fully paid up sociopaths of the bird world, I love them.
They can spot people with food from hundreds yards and although they can be imtimitating, they learn very quickly.
Many years ago I fed herring gulls at Inverary. They would fly in at head height and at the last moment flick their wings from the horizontal to vertical to take chips from the hand.
And in my opinion the call of the herring gull is just sound that says .... "seaside"
