hi took this pic today, not sure what is it, it looks like a sparrow but the head markings don't seem too familiar, can anyone tell me if it is a sparrow please or what it is thanks.

oh...that was quick, thank you sooo very much been looking to find out what it was for ages now, don't know much about buntings, only just started getting into birds so thanks again much appreciated

A Male reed bunting too. Coming into breeding plumage.

I got all excited the day before yesterday thinking that a reed bunting had visited my garden (they are not far down the lane), but turned out it was a rather bedraggled tree sparrow, and the rain had made its chestnut head look black

. OK, so I should be excited that I have tree sparrows ... well I was initially, but they are the most common bird in my garden, up to 60 of them, though I am fond of them. I get excited when I spot a house sparrow with them though!
