Hi Pigeon feather
I don’t mind if I get a sparrow in the box, although something more colourful would be nice, so long as it helps a bird survive. I saw sparrow terraces in the shops; they would all nest side by side I think, must very sociable birds.
Swifts would be nice to see, I have them visit over my garden even had one fly in through the open front door a few years ago when they were looking for nesting sites, actually I can’t remember if it was a swift or a house martin but I have lots of mud blobs under the eaves where they started to build.
Good luck for all your boxes

| | | Re: What's in your nestbox? Encouraged by two days of brilliant sunshine and my first dawn chorus of the year, I busied myself hanging out the clean brushings from my hair this morning. It wasn't long before the bluetits flew in for an inspection...that is until my son kindly came to tidy the garden. Bless!
He came rushing in to tell me there was some kind of foreign spider lurking in the bushes. ''You should see the size of the webs, they're pure white and all over the place!'' |

Thanks, Phoebe | My hubby made the woodpecker box. Dimensions are pretty easy to find online. You can buy them, but he had some spare wood lying around so had a go himself. He's covered the hole with a piece of thin plywood with a few small holes drilled through it to give the impression of a rollen piece of wood. We are hoping it will encourage them to peck it out. Atleast them we will know they are using it, as nothing else can get in! |

Phoebe | I've now moved the nestbox on recommendations, trouble is I can't see it now, but hopefully I'll get visitors this year. Have been trying to upload phot, it says it was successful but it's not there! Grrr...
I also bought one of those RSPB roosting pockets for £1.99 & stuffed that in the hedge, not sure what would go in it or if anthing would nest in it, but you never know....Has anyone got any experience of them?
I can't wait for spring to get going up here I'm watching out for bird nesters, hoping that frogs/toads/newts/fish will spawn in my new ponds (one for fish & one for wildlife, dug last year) and after reading about the bumble bees by Pauline, attracting them into feeding station. Come on Spring.....
I'll keep you posted
