Bird Photography

Hello. I am wondering if anyone has got a Sigma 150-500mm OS HSM lens that they use? And I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is like and if it is any good for bird photography? Thank you

Hi Sam and welcome to WAB, I use the Sigma 150-500 and I find it ideal for photographing birds, here are a sample of some recent shots I've taken with the lens.

And this one won me the National Wetlands Nikon Competition.

So I would say that this lens IMHO is one of the best for the money.

I can second that. I have the pentax version so the OS is in body and not Sigmas in lens but I've been nothing but impressed with my 150-500mm. Sure it can be a bit slow in poor light but for £700 and 500mm its a bargin, but with great results!

Also do you think that a Canon 30D or 20D would do the job with the Sigma lens? Thank you

Hi Sam

As you are aware for my website, this is one of the lenses that I use.

I have replied to the message that you sent to me via my website but basically it is another "very satisfied" view.
