| | Nestcam concern… Hi all, I wonder if you could offer any advice...
Last weekend I sited a nestbox with camera on to a tree in my garden. I have only been one fleeting visit so far. Then I noticed a pair of Collared Doves very close to the box and flapping about so I went out to have a look and saw that they are making a nest in the holly that surrounds the tree. My concern is that this may deter any bird from using the box. I would like to be able to see the box from the window and I cannot see another more suitable site. Should I try to re-site the box or wait and see?
I also put up a box without camera in my very old apple tree and have had a few birds look in but as yet have not noticed any real interest. I am not sure if the location is quite right for this box as the tree is about 4 foot from the lane, it is not a busy lane just a few tractors every now and then. There was a bluetit nest in the hedge on the lane last year so I hope it will be ok there.
Any advice welcome, thanks
Phoebe

| | | Re: Nestcam concern… Hi Phoebe,
I have a nest box that is used every year, sometimes twice a year. The blue tits don't mind the pair of whitethroats that nest right on top of the box and whitethroats are very aggressive around the nest. I wish i could find a photo of the mother whitethroat sitting on her nest while the bluetits are in and out feeding their chicks. I know collared doves are bigger than whitethroats but i would get dive bombed every time i went passed by the whitethroat but they lived in harmony with the blue tits, so you never know they may be alright where they are.
cheers
Dave. |

| | | Re: Nestcam concern… Hi Dave, thanks for the advice, I am leaving the box where it is for the moment. I started a thread "What's in your nestbox?" and have had some replies on there. I just have to sit back and wait, (arms folded) lol
