| | | Dumbfounded by ducks! Hello all, do I need help!
Living on Anglesey I am always drawn to the coast, and inevitably I suppose, I favour coastal birds.
Last year I came across this slender, very sleek but larger (in comparison to the mallards), black-necked, brown body, white rump-feathered duck (female?), on the pond at Penrhos Nature Reserve, Holyhead, but could not find its name in any book I searched. Now this year it is still there but has also a (male?) friend/mate? Although to my untrained eye they look like totally different breeds. The (male?) is squat, black headed, yellow billed, orange footed, with dove-grey body. I would love to know what type they are as they are now locals
Also on the same day last week I saw these two beauties, proud as punch as if they'd spent their whole life here, which is not the case, it's the first time I've ever seen them here. One was mainly white with a little smattering of black here and there, and a grey bill, whilst the other was white underneath, grey flanks, but a dark charcoaly-brown on the wings and back, and yellow bill. Both had orange feet.
I am sorry for the quality of the photos but I only had the phone with me at the time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
