| | | maize in bird food I'm thinking about mixing my own bird food. I changed my premium bird food mix as i was constantly getting plants growing around the feeder pole & they were chucking most of it out, so I went for a no mess mix. I've noticed that some of the no mess mixes contain maize, do tits etc eat this or is this the equivalent in the no mess world of cheap bulk filler, ie wheat?
Have already been in argument with one company which did not list wheat as an ingredient but it contained 18% wheat. I got onto Trading standards which sent a letter basically saying nothing. Anyway, the company apologised, blamed a previous mix in the mixing machine (knew they would do that) & sent me a new free bag, which contained......barley!
I really object to wheat or cereal as I'm trying to attract smaller breeds not ruddy great wolfing pigeons & it sprouts everywhere. I'm gonna go for broken sunflower hearts, suet pellets, crushed peanuts, dried mealworms, fruit, plus anything else I see that takes my fancy. Can you buy dried insects? Anybody got any other suggestions?
