| | | Woodpecker I saw this green woodpecker in my garden the other day. Made my day but I was wondering if they are a rare sighting or not. Sorry about the crappy photo |

| | | Re: Woodpecker Certainly not rare in my neck of the woods. They are regularly seen on our local football pitch and are frequent visitors to the roadside grass verges around here.
Almost certainly after ants nests which they adore.
That said, consider yourself lucky to get one actually in your garden because they are very wary of any approach by man.

| | | Re: Woodpecker Thats excellent, I guess it was taken through glass? I've found they're very nervous on the ground but once they've settled in a tree (or telegraph pole I've sometimes seen) they seem to relax and you can watch and sometimes get a bit closer. Apparently they like freshly cut grass. |
