email notification

help!
i'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i'm not sure where to put it and this is the only bit of the forum i look at or post on.
i've tried 4 times to stop getting email notification of any threads i've posted on but i still keep getting the emails!!
i've gone through the whole process (user control panel, choose no email notification in default thread subscription mode, and save changes) and looking at my control panel, it shows 'no email notification' - but they keep on coming.
what am i doing wrong????????????????

Perhaps the notifications are for ones that you have previously subscribed to. Click on "My Posts" icon along top, then tick any threads in there and then do what you want with them by selecting the required action from the drop down list at the bottom. Any good?

thanks jonners, i hadn't even noticed that option. i've given it a go so we'll see what happens tomorrow morning.

yep thats how i did it, it was a bit frustrating having to constantly delete them!

seems to have done the trick, no email notification waiting for me this morning when i logged on

Had the same problem - why are you 'subscribed' to a thread and sent unsolicited emails just because you post? It's not very user friendly and can really clog up your inbox. You don't appear to be asked if you want these emails, so shouldn't be sent them unless you 'opt in'. You shouldn't have to manually 'opt out'. And I just KNOW I'm going to get an email after posting on this thread now!

Thanks Jonners! I was wondering why I was very occasionally getting emails about one or two very old threads that had been 'bumped'. Problem sorted.

you can chose not to recieve emails via the user control panel , as spout did.
I agree it ought to be an opt in rather than opt out but its just a ticky box to opt out so its really no biggie to deal with

the only thing then as spout discovered is that it only stops you receiving new notifications, you also have to unsubscribe the threads you previously made.

its quite common for opt in to be the default tho because if for example you only join to ask one question you might want email notification of replies but not get as far as viewing your profile options.

wheras its only a problem for established members with lots of posts, and its reasonable (IMO) to assume that these people will be able to turn notifications off if they dont want them
