Disease/Infection ID on a Great Tit

I have noticed the same growths on great tits in Newbury, Berkshire so it must be spreading. I first noticed it on a tit about 2 months ago and that bird has disappeared (Presumably died) today I spotted it on another bird so it would appear that it spreads quickly?

There are 3 or 4 great tits with the large tumors that you describe. I live
in West Shropshire. Not all the population is affected and no other species
seems to be affected.

I've spotted a similarly infected Great Tit in our garden today. It didn't look nice, but the bird was lively enough and feeding.

Would it be best to destroy it as soon as possible?
