| | | If you could If you discovered a new bird, never seen before, and were given the chance to give it a name what would it be?

Would it eat a Barnsley Chop?

as for naming a new bird (apart from after a person)
will depend on
a) What it is doing - eg. 'wagtail', 'woodpecker'
b) What it looks like - eg. Pied Flycatcher, Redstart
c) What it sounds like when it calls - Chiffchaff, Jay, Cuckoo etc (Onomatopoeia)
AND what other similar species are in the group - or even whether it's a split of an existing species (no point naming a ssp of Reed Warbler, a 'Blue bellied cuckoo'!)
I'd think I'd start by naming the misnomas we all ready have!
eg. 'Black-headed Gull'
'Grey Wagtail'
'Dartford' Warbler
'Kentish Plover' |
