| | | Birds singing now... that the snow has been washed away as I fed the birds this morning \i was greeted by the blackbird, robin and wren singing. It was as if they were as happy as us to see the back of the snow

We have a theory on the starlings, we think they can count spaces in the trees and divide up accordingly.
and yes i think starlings can sing |

| | | Re: Birds singing now... As we all know Mother Nature is wonderful, we might have the most expensive up to date computers to predict the weather ie the Met Office who stated the winter of 2009/10 would be wet and mild but mother nature made sure there was plenty of berries etc on the trees predicting a harsh winter. Do the birds know something we don't? I reckon we should pay more attention to the natural signs rather than the Met Office
A few days ago I came across a program on TV about a chap who I believed lived in Yorkshire who predicted the weather by looking at frog spawn, trees, nature etc. Another chap had written a biography on him I just wish I had paid more attention as I can't recall his name. |

| My friend and I were wondering the other day about the starlings that roost under the bridge over the Thames nearby. They gather in different numbered groups and swoop under to roost a few at a time, and there never seem to be any left over that have to fly off elsewhere They are very vocal once they get under and find a space.
We were feeding robins in the park the other day and they made very soft 'pinking' sounds that I hadn't heard before.

| | | Re: Birds singing now... I've only heard mistle thrushes, dunnocks and great tits singing as yet, but any day now I should hear my first song thrush, with the blackies following soon after.
The first singing blackbird of the year, for me is a monumental seasonal highlight.

| | | Re: Birds singing now... the great tits over at my uni campus have started singing a lot more. even though they're vocal over the winter, they seem to be more constant and loud now, looks as if they're staking out territories, as they seem to be certain distances away from each other |
