| | | Tree Sparrows at Beddington Sewage Works Still flushed from the success of spotting my first Water Rail, I thought I'd try a trip to Beddington to see what other "firsts" I can spot.
Can anyone tell me a good place to spot Tree Sparrows at the sewage works. Then (hopefully) a 3 h round trip will not be wasted
Thanks in advance. Feel free to PM me.
Ash

| | | Re: Tree Sparrows at Beddington Sewage Works The tree sparrows tend to hang about the feeders on the SW corner of the lake. There is a track nearby running north/south and a small path takes you to the chain-link fence from where you can see the feeders. You can normally see them quite clearly.
I tend to park the car in Beddington Park and walk up but I'm no good at describing how to get there!
There is a description of the place here if that helps. http://www.diporglory.co.uk/page4.html |

| | | Re: Tree Sparrows at Beddington Sewage Works If you want access to the site + visit, this coming Sunday there is a field meeting by the London Natural History Society meeting at Hackbridge Station at 9.30.
Unfortunately I'll be conducting WeBS surveys so won't be able to go this time, but have visited many times in the past. |

| | | Re: Tree Sparrows at Beddington Sewage Works Oh yes, I forgot there was limited access. Thanks aeshna5! Astra, is it restricted access to that feeder, do you know? Great pictures, they are encouraging.
Edit: sorry, I think the directions say you can view the feeder.
Thanks very much!

Great pictures, they are encouraging. | When I've been before we were able to get reasonably close, but I'm not really a photographer (though I do take some!). Guess you'll need some good lens or digiscope job.
Usually a good place for Green Sandpiper, but with the freeze I'm sure many wetland birds will have been displaced. |

| | | Re: Tree Sparrows at Beddington Sewage Works Yes, been thinking of getting a scope. All I've got is a good pair of binoculars.
A scope is all very "serious" and people might mistake me for a "birder", which I am not

Thanks very much! | Yes you can see the feeder from the public path - it's about 20-25 feet away from the fence.
I just stuck my camera lens through the holes in the chain link |
