| | | Identification please I'm pretty sure this is a tree sparrow, but they're becoming rather scarce round here, can anyone confirm please? |

| | | Re: Identification please Hi MP,
I think it's a regular House Sparrow as it lacks cheek spots and more defined wing-bars. You're lucky to have TSs locally albeit scarce, I've never seen one.
Take care, Jason

I agree with Jason, House Sparrow.
I haven't seen tree Sparrow for a couple of years either.

Take care, Jason | If anyone wants to see Tree Sparrows then why not take a trip south of Croydon to Beddington Sewage Farm?
The colony there isn't as big as it used to be but it's still meant to be the larges breeding colony in the UK.
Take a look here Beddington Farmlands |

| | | Re: Identification please Hi Moonpenny. Probably House Sparrow, but there's a hanging twig which is obscuring his cheeks and the back of his neck. Did you get any other photos? |

| | | Re: Identification please A good point and the biggest factor I considered. I subsequently discounted it pretty much on the lack of bold wing bars and deeper bill. Still, I don't have much experience in differenciating these - but still think HS |

| | | Re: Identification please The lack of the white collar confirms House Sparrow. I would'nt use the cheek spot as a means of ID here as you carnt see the cheek for the twig. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
