| | | So what birds are now coming into your garden?? I've been feeding birds in the garden for a few years now and as I live in the middle of a large town, I've been pleased to get greenfinches and a few goldfinches, the odd chaffinch and a few tits. Also starlings and collared doves and the odd woodie. But with this weather all sort of new ones have appeared.
Today, there suddenly appeared 5 jays - never seen them in the garden before, and also a family of 4 long tailed tits, again never been in the garden. Redwings have suddenly appeared and even the usual ones, mentioned above, are around in much bigger numbers.
So is anyone else getting unusual visitors??
Sorry, not 'birs' in the title - of course I mean 'birds'. Why doesn't this keyboard produce what I mean to type <I've corrected it Bob - Dave P.>

| | | Re: So what birs are now coming into your garden?? strangley I had a redwing in my garden today, which is a first. I had to look it up to identify it as i wasn't sure what it was. the blurb about it said that they do not do well this weather as they can not get to their insect food source when there is an extended period of frozen ground. It was sitting hunched up just watching the feeding frenzy of all my regulars so, i am quite concerned for it. |

Am most pleased that a phesant (we live on the edge of a town near fields) has been coming several times a day since Christmas. He is stunning, I'd forgotten just how beautiful these birds can be. He is hilarious as once he's stuffed his face he runs across the agrden to his field - is very amusing to watch. |

My unusual visitors this week have been a pair of reed buntings. I'm hoping green and goldfinches will start to make a more regular appearance and perhaps redwing and fieldfare or even a few other rarities.
I'm surrounded by houses, although close to fields and woodland so have a limited range of species that visit regularly.

I have the usual birds visiting my garden but I've noticed an increase in chaffinches and blackbirds and in the last week I was visited by a grey wagtail and a kestrel. The kestrel swooped down yesterday morning and narrowly missed the chaffinches in the tree. It glanced around disappointedly then took off again down the street. |

| | | Re: So what birs are now coming into your garden?? My unusual visitor is a Grey Wagtail - it arrived with the snow just before Christmas and disappeared when the snow went and when the current cold snap arrived it re-appeared and has been here every day since - not that I am complaining
We had one solitary Greenfinch on Christmas Day - I've not seen any more than that for a very long time
There were two Redwing in the tree above our garden today (not in our garden - just tips over into it ) which was lovely to see |

| | | Re: So what birs are now coming into your garden?? Yes, loads more blackbirds. I get 1 regular visitor, but today there were 7. I decided to throw out some sultanas and currants and for most of the day everything ignored them, then suddenly they were all getting eaten.

In work office in centre of city, very unusually, during a 10 minute break, spotted a flock of 6 Song Thrush in office garden, several Fieldfare in office garden and Redwings flying backwards and forwards overhead, also one Mistle Thrush. (First time for Redwing and Fieldfare in this very urban location). Song Thrush have now departed from my own back garden having finally stripped the berry bush this morning but several Jays hanging around. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
