| | | Little Finch Type Bird - What Is It ? When I put food out for the birds today , I had the usual starlings, jackdaws, blackbirds, rooks, robins, blue tits chaffinches and sparrows. I also had 2 song thrushes, a bullfinch, a pied wagtail and a little brown finch type bird.
I've no idea what the little bird is. It was a similar size to the sparrows , maybe slightly smaller but bigger than the blue tits. It was brown on its head and back, with some slightly darker barring , and lighter barring on its wings. Its underside was grey , fading lighter towards its tail , with no speckling or other markings. The tip of the tail feathers on the underside were dark (forming a v shape against the light grey underside). I couldn't see any other colouring on the bird other than the shades of the barring on its back and wings. I'm sure it had a yellowish beak ( I took pictures but my camera isn't great and the bird was 30 feet away and tiny). It landed on the stalk of a dead nettle and picked at the seed head, fluttered to another dead nettle , then on to another before flying off again. (The bullfinch didn't hang around for long either. He munched on the seed head of a dead dock before leaving).
Does anyone know what it could be ? |

| | | Re: Little Finch Type Bird - What Is It ? Hiya Dogghound. Thanks , I have more than one picture but none of them are very clear. How do I upload onto here ? I'm used to forums where pictures are uploaded from pic host sites. |

| | | Re: Little Finch Type Bird - What Is It ? Twite could be one possibility - hard to say, can you post a pic anyway (even if you think it's not a good one!)
Go into the ' Gallery' then to 'image library' and 'upload image'. Then 'browse' which takes you to your own computer files. Double click on your pic then go to where it says ''submit''. Cut and paste 'thumbnail' url into your post.
(someone else may explain that better!)
