| | | Alexandrines We have had up to 12 parakeets visiting our feeders over the past two months.
I noticed a group of between 3 and 5 were much larger than the others, with black and red rings round their necks, big red beaks and red flashes on their wings.
I have searched on line and believe they are Alexandrines.
Anyone know anything about these please? |

| | | Re: Alexandrines Sounds like you have identified these correctly from your description.
A couple of pairs successfully bred in Merseyside in the late '90s. Occasional birds have been recorded in the London area which of course has a large Ring-necked Parakeet population.
Hybrids between the 2 species have bred in Sidcup + Alexandrines have been seen at a Lewisham parakeet roost.
What part of the country are you in? Any photos? |

| | | Re: Alexandrines Thank you for your reply.
I live in Bromley Kent. I think they are flying in from off the common.
My husband will try and get some pictures. |

| | | Re: Alexandrines Interestingly Blue-crowned Parakeets bred in Bromley about a decade ago. I've heard no recent news so presumed they have died out. |

| | Re: Alexandrines Certainly look like Alexandrine, though to be honest from what I can see I can't eliminate the possibility of Alexandrine x Ring-necked Parakeet hybrids which have been recorded in your part of the world.
Interesting visitors for sure. Do you get any regular Ring-necked (also known as Rose-ringed) Parakeets in your garden too? |

| | | Re: Alexandrines Weather's not as good.
All the other parakeets we get seem to be two tone green, with no markings.
In this picture there are two of the other parakeets that we get.
Sorry, the pictures are not really close enough. |
