| | | Is this a Mistle Thrush? We've just started getting visits from this bird. It seemed much larger than our usual Thrushes - and a lot more timid. I've photographed it from quite a distance, so this is highly cropped! We thought that we may have a Fieldfare, but from the photo it now seems that it's just a Mistle Thrush.
Can the experts confirm it.
Thanks Keith. |

| | | Re: Is this a Mistle Thrush? Hi Keith
Going off the spots on the breast I would say it is a mistle thrush as the spots on a song thrush are more like arrow heads pointing upwards and the mistle thrushes spots are more rounded. Also the tail looks quite long which would suggest a mistle thrush. I must admit though the birds head pattern does look like a song thrush. If I had to pick one I would say its a mistle thrush.
cheers

Just been looking at some pics of both again and comparing against your one Keith ,and I reverse my Judgement and have come to the conclusion that it is indeed a Mistle Thrush looking again at the markings on the breast and down the sides they are more rounded than the sharper shape of the Song Thrush so I stand corrected
