Carrion Crows on Ice

Just recently, whilst many of our ponds and lakes are frozen, I have noticed many carrion crows that are walking on the ice. I haven't noticed any other 'land birds' doing the same, so why do they do it??? There doesn't seem to be anything for them to eat, but maybe they can get a drink!!

Any thoughts??

I had some Ring-necled Parakeets walking on a frozen lake the other day too.
Seemed to be scraping the ice so whether there was any 'food' trapped in the ice or it wanted an avian slush puppy I can't say.

I filmed pigeons sliding on the ice earlier this year, but I think they were after bread that was being thrown for the ducks. Too greedy to be sensible.
I saw crows down by the Thames today picking over the 'rubble' (you can't call them rocks) at low tide and one having a wash whilst paddling.
