Strange behavior

We have thousands of Lapwings on my patch right now. When I took the dog for his run this morning I watched a pair behaving very strangely.
They stood there almost sparring up to each other making themselves as tall as they could then chased each other round in circles with there wings stretched out. Then one would fly into the air, almost jumping over the other one and land on the ground in front of it.
They carried on in this way for a few minutes then just settled down.
I don't know if this was just fun and games, aggression or a prelude to pairing up though I think it is probably a bit early for that.

I would think it's some sort of courtship display.....but whatever it's all about, they are super pics Snake!
