| | | Please ID Wagtail This has become a regular to our garden - it looks like a pied wagtail but has a yellow face.
Not being a great expert on wagtails (apart from the grey) I'd like some confirmation if it's a variation of a pied wagtail.
The robin hates him.
Sorry about the poor photo - the light wasn't good and they're very twitchy.
Cheers,
Acher

| | | Re: Please ID Wagtail The yellow could be stains/dirt from where its been feeding and got mud on its face. Ive seen it on swans and other birds with white plumage |

| | | Re: Please ID Wagtail Thanks all! I don't think I'd fancy 'yellow' snow either
But --- he's had a yellow face from before the snow.
I found this though earlier on - Pied Wagtails: All birds have a black crown, generally sharply demarcated from the white/yellowish forehead. The vast majority also have the pure black extending back onto the nape, with the exception of a few females that have some dark grey edges to these feathers. The face is almost always mainly white, extending down the chin and throat. Some have a lemon yellow wash over this white, which tends to be uniform.
From this paper - http://www.the-soc.org.uk/docs/white-wagtail-id.pdf
So perhaps it is just a bit of a variant?
I just typed in 'pied wagtail yellow face' and this popped up! It's just 2 below this WAB post in the google list!
Thanks again for the help and (very) kind comments re the photo.
