Sparrowhawk hunting
Out walking the other day, I noticed what I was sure was a sparrowhawk fly past. I stopped to watch it as it went and then it suddenly folded its wings and dived behind a fence-presumably for lunch.

I normally see them swooping and gliding at low level near trees etc using them for cover but not seen this before-it was a sparrowhawk wasn't it?

Only BOP we see regularly here (NW Durham), are kestrels, sparrowhawks, Red Kite and occasional Buzzards

Darting up suddenly over a fence or hedge is definitely a sparrowhawk style hunting trick, catching the prey unaware on the other side .

This is pretty standard behaviour for Sparrowhawk.
