| | | Bird Id needed please apologies for posting an external link but I don't know how to load videos on here 014
I was down on a local beach (south west Ireland) today and this bird was zooming about. Very fast and agile, it was smaller than the oyster catchers who were on the strand.
It was white under the wings and had a black tail with a white patch above it. The light was so bright and it was so far away (no binoculars!) that I couldn't really see any detail.
As you can hear in the video it has a high pitched one note call (ignore the tweeting birds at the start of the piece)
Anyone any clue? |

I`m interested in what the experts here have to say about this one, first thing that came to mind was Osprey but your sizing and the speed of the bird has me doubting ...and curious!
White over up here on the Northeast coast but thin, hows the South of Ireland? |

| | | Re: Bird Id needed please Thanks guys - can no one see the video? Is there any way of loading it on here directly? Oh, or I can do it on youtube!!
I don't know if it is a turnstone...it's got me stumped!
oh, it's cold here by the way - no snow, we very rarely get the white stuff down here! it's about 5 degrees, which is freezing for us |

| | | Re: Bird Id needed please I opened it ok Merrow, and its definately not a Turnstone ..we`ve loadsa of those little fellas up here on our beaches.
The bird is mobbing something on the right for some reason, flying and swooping in a hurry like Peewits do if you walk near their nesting sites.
The wings are similar but wider and much longer, with the same blunt fingered ends to them with white unders.
It was the small head and contrasting light and dark plumage that had me thinking Osprey. Hope someone can put us out of our misery |
