| | | blue tit egg I found a broken egg on my step this morning. It was tiny, pink and white. It was also runny. I assume it had to be fresh as an old egg wouldn't be so runny. I didn't think it was common for blue tits to have eggs at this time of year!! What do other people think? rs329 |

| | | Re: blue tit egg could it be a pigeon? They rear young for a longer season than other birds, I quite often find small eggs under the laylandii where I park my car. In fact I don't park exactly there any more coz of the amount of bird poop collecting on my bonnet |

| | | Re: blue tit egg Hi rs329 and welcome to the forum.
Any chance you could provide a photograph of what you found, or perhaps a more complete description?
The eggs of blue tits are typically white or creamy white with lightish tan or reddish-brown specks and spots, being less marked towards the more pointed end of the egg. Clutches are normally laid towards the end of April or during early May, so it wouldn't be normal to find one at this time of year.
Are you assuming it to be a blue tit egg based on size alone, or is there some other reason you thought it might be?
Metalfish is correct in advising that pigeons are about the only 'native' bird that would normally be cabable of producing eggs at this time of year, but it's not inconceivable that it could be from an escaped cage-bird, especially one that had been kept under artificial lighting conditions.
Any further info you can provide, including which part of the country you are in, might help narrow it down a bit.

| | | Re: blue tit egg Hi and welcome from me too!
Pinky white might be Robin, but its soooo early, normally marchish, any nest sites near your back door or any other way it might have got there?
Photo would be good, as above posts ask, plus size - or a fuller description.
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: blue tit egg Wild birds can sometimes be caught out by a spell of mild weather during winter, encouraging them to nest outside theire normal season. I remember reading a few years back of Norwich City Council delaying taking down the City Centre christmas tree because a pair of blackbirds where nesting in it.

| | | Re: blue tit egg Yeah, with the spell of mild weather we have had until recently, it's not totally impossible that the odd bird has got a bit confused and produced an egg or two - as dave says, it does happen.
If it was tiny and white with pinkish speckles it could well be a Blue Tit. Woodpigeon would be pure white and around an inch and a half long. |

| | | Re: blue tit egg Its been pretty cold here recently - highland Perthshire. I had a look on the internet and a wren egg can also be white and pink so could be this too. I have posted a pic to Gallery but its pending at the moment?
Thanks for the welcome
