I'm fortunate enough to have a huge flock of Golden Plovers near me, someone has counted them as 2,500 in total. Here's a couple of pics, the second when a Buzzard spooked them.   |

They really are beautiful birds close up and I love their distinctive but unusual call.
I remember watching a 'family' of them a couple of years ago, while walking along Derwent Edge. 
Haven't seen one since then.

Nice. Theres usually a reasonably sized flock at Oaare marshes, and I saw a bigger one at Elmley a few weeks ago, but nowhere near that many! Nice photo |

yes, thats a great sight, terrific bird of the moors, one of my favourites - so pretty too - I suspect you have some Lapwing in that flock as well, they often flock together.

I saw a biggish flock at Keyhaven,Hampshire a few days back,nowhere near 2500.There is always an excited shout when a big flock takes to the air . |

There was a mixed flock estimated at 2500+ Golden Plovers and 1500+ Lapwings in a field by the side of the entrance road to the RSPB's Fen Drayton Lakes reserve (here in Cambs) yesterday

You get good sized flocks at marshside rspb southport. They look great through a scope close up. The large flocks are a good indicator when bop are in the area and they all take flight.

Jeff | Saw them too, but from the river bank. Did get a snap of an arrowhead of golden plover flying overhead.
