| | | I need some non toxic sealer to seal my bird table. I have a bird table that has wooden roof slats, their are some gaps between the wooden roof slats where rain is dripping in onto the fresh food.
Can anyone recommend some non toxic sealent to seal the gaps, i`m after something thats similar to clear bath sealent where you squirt it from a tube and ideally in a wooden brown colour.
I want non toxic as you never know with birds as some will peck at anything, is best to seal it from the outside on the top or seal it from the under side of the bird table. i was going to do it from the underside as its out of sight then and quite high into the roof.

Frame sealants are flexible but only skin over so I wouldn't use this. You have silicone based products that set like a rubber and i have seen birds pecking at this with know ill affect. A newish product around at the moment that we sell is called CT1 which is a non silicone based sealant and adhesive that does set very much like silicone. Other than these two I can't think of anything else at the moment.

You'll probably have to replace the tape every 6 months or so but it should address your concerns about toxity. I'm not sure the silicon based sealants are particularly useful in wood to wood joints anyway. There are some PVA based sealants, and PVA is considered 'low toxicity', if not actually non toxic, though do be aware that not all PVA preparations are rated for exterior use.

I have seen it working in a in store demonstration and the videos are acurate. It is expensive but it is as good as it looks. It comes in Brown, grey, black, clear, white, biege and oak. I work for a Builders Merchants in Norfolk so I don't know who would sell it over that way. Your best bet would probably be buying it over the internet.

Jim | But carefull what you ask for. Make sure you get silicone and not just a frame sealant. An ordinary frame sealant isn't silicone and will just skin over so that it stays more flexible. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
