| | | Redwings overhead I took advantage of the sunshine and was out in the back garden hoping for something interesting to either pop in or fly over. It all seems very quiet at the moment with birds still out in the fields and not really attracted by our feeders.
Suddenly, I saw a small flock of birds barrelling across the sky and highlighted by the sun.
I managed to snap them just as they passed by. I did not know what they were as everything happened so quickly. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that they were redwings - just as elusive in the sky as on the ground.
Anyway, here a couple of snaps:
This is a crop from the previous crop
Finally, thank you and good night as they zoomed off
Colin

| | | Re: Redwings overhead Haven't spotted any yet Colin but I've heard they're around. Will be keeping my eyes peeled for them (along with Fieldfares) when I walk along the Monsal Trail from Bakewell. Seems the preferred local spot for them to flock, as there are loads of berries up there.
Nice pic of them on the wing!

So far we only have the odd few birds on my patch.
Nice to see them on the move. |

| | | Re: Redwings overhead I saw my first flock of about 40 or so at about 8.00 this morning. Travelling SW so they'd probably crossed the Thames moments before. Wonderful sight.

| | | Re: Redwings overhead I saw around 20-30 last weekend whilst walking the dogs up a hill in Cheltenham. They arent the easiest things to ID. I was quite chuffed when i realised what they were. I'm still very inexperienced at ID-ing birds so have probably missed thousands of them! |
