I don't know if he was having fun but the magpies certainly look like they were.
The cats expression at the end. He stared up at the camera and the look on his face was " Oh xxxxxx, i'm gonna be on you tube!!!" |

I'v heard of playing 'cat and mouse' but this was more like 'Magpie and Cat' |

starling was being fed by an adult, when, a magpie arrived, sat on the young bird and started eating it, what a racket ! I know about nature being red in tooth and claw etc. but we were compelled to shoo off the magpie and put the young bird out of its misery.This incident was surprisingly upsetting. |

I also doubt very much whether (if indeed the Magpie had any chicks) they would have starved. Magpies are opportune feeders and scavengers, there would have been plenty of other food sources around. (Including attempting to get the fleas off the tails of cats and foxes which may very well explain the apparent ''games'' being played out in the videos rather than any anthropomorphic explanations  ) |
