| | | Waxwing watch. It was about this time last year that we had a good influx of waxwings.
I don't know what the weather is doing in Scandinavia or if there's a shortage of berries but if it's cold and they're short of grub,I'd like to see them here again. Please let us know if you catch up with any on this thread.

| | | Re: Waxwing watch. Most of the local Rowans here have been stripped of their beries by Fieldfares, but I've got my eye on some places where there are still some left.
I haven't seen any Waxwings yet, but I'm not giving up hope just yet.

Actually I do know why ... all those cotoneasters in the supermarket carpark landscaping. The carpark outside Sainsbury's at Meadowhall, Sheffield is a favoured waxwing spot .... |

| | | Re: Waxwing watch. That's a bit disappointing as we had a good run of them last year. I suppose in a way though, it means there's enough to eat for them where they are and so prevents them having to undertake a hazardous journey across the North Sea to feed themselves.

I went to West Mersea yesterday where 2 Waxwings have been seen for several days .... no Waxwings there but when I got home, the BirdGuides website said that they had been seen

| | | Re: Waxwing watch. We have three about 20 miles from me at a village called Wilnecote, near Tamworth and they have been there for a few days now.
I was going to go for them yesterday but my pond filter developed a fault and by the time I had rectified it it was too late to go.
I am going to have a look for them this morning as they were still there 5 minutes ago.
There has been a small influx from the middle of February and flocks of up to 30 have been seen in various parts of the eastern side of the country. Some are beginning to spread inland now as they look for new feeding grounds so it is likely that over the next couple of months you may get a few near you.
