| | Wildlife Crime Officer claims no persecution of Harriers on his Watch? English Hen Harrier Extinction Debate.
Please visit www.raptorpolitics.org.uk and read the Wildlife Crime Officer's comments that there is NO illegal persecution of Hen Harriers in the Forest of Bowland. His remarks are contained with the Shooting UK article, follow the enclosed link in our article. After reading both the “Hen Harrier on the Brink of Extinction” article, together with the Crime Officer’s remarks on our web’s Home Page, you are being asked to judge the evidence and make up your own minds. We urge everyone to post a comment after reading the details in our article and the remarks in the Shooting UK article made by the Wildlife Crime Officer.

| | | Re: Wildlife Crime Officer claims no persecution of Harriers on his Watch? possibly so but at the same time the guy concerned is a pc - so if raptor pollitics feel that he has been remiss or derelict in his duties why not simply complain to his sargeant, inspector, cheif inspector, supt, cheif supt , ACC or even Cheif constable - any rebutal from these officers is conspicuously absent from the web article.
what he says is quite possibly true - you do get good gamekeepers as well as bad and its quite possible that some estates did produce extra harriers while at the same time the population as a whole was falling.
I have very little time for people who want to blame the police for short comings in the legal system - as the way forward in policing wildlife crime is to work with the police not to openly villify them on the internet.
I'd also note that WLO is a suplemental role on top of an officers core duties so quite possibly PC thomas didnt have time to pursue this investigation as fully as RP or indeed even he might have liked - the fact that the police dont have fulltime WLOs is a failing but its one that can only be addressed at police comitee or even secretary of state level - attacking an individual officers reputation is both unnecessary, pointless, , self defeating, and quite simply wrong.
If you have evidence of wrong doing or corruption on PC thomas's part present it to his cheif contsable or the PCA , if you dont ... then you might like to consider the wisdom of publically slandering a serving officer

| | | Re: Wildlife Crime Officer claims no persecution of Harriers on his Watch? Doesn't the commendable Wildlife Crime Officer realise he will soon be out of a job as the chinless wonders that own and run (not politically) the country will soon have destroyed all the wildlife so he won't have any left to "investigate". All so that green wellied soldiers can deploy grouse seeking missiles in the name of fun and social gathering.Tally Ho! |

W | I have not read the article in question but I would suggest there may be an element of hair-splitting going on here. I have met people who work in the area and persecution is still a concern. However, hen harrier breeding was poor this year because of low vole numbers after the wet summer last year. Natural problems are just as serious as persecution when numbers are so marginal but I am a bit alarmed that the above information is not being widely reported. I suspect the WCO was simply voicing a fact pertaining to the situation this year without elaborating on it. |
