| | | Sunflower Heart Feeder I saw this feeder Buy Sunflower Hearts Feeder from Haiths Wild Bird Foods
Does anyone else uses this type? Would the seed get damp quickly, as it's quite exposed?
So much seed gets dropped on the ground from my seed feeder. I know I could chop it up but honestly, it'll never happen. |

| | | Re: Sunflower Heart Feeder Looking at the pic on the ad I would have thought so ,i have my feeder enclosed with a tray to catch any that fall to the ground and the ones in the tray are always soggy if its been raining or damp,so I dont think this is very viable,to me its a no no

| | | Re: Sunflower Heart Feeder Yeah I would think it would get damp really quickly and clog it up, especially if you don't have to refill it often.
I use a plastic tube (albeit a cheap one) and that gets damp and you have to watch it doesn't clog up and go mouldy. Mind you this only happened after days and days of rain. If you let it empty each day (which you are supposed to do) - at least mine usually easily gets emptied in a day!, then I guess it wouldn't matter too much about it getting a bit wet. But it does mean having to feed them every day, and if you forget there are lots of hungry birds tapping on your window!!
I've also found recently that greenfinches are a lot messier than sparrows! |

| | | Re: Sunflower Heart Feeder We use one of these Gardman Mealworm Trays.
You can lower the lid to stop the rain (and the Jackdaws ) getting in. Bullfinches were just about camped on it last winter |

| | | Re: Sunflower Heart Feeder Thanks for your replies and thoughts. I'm glad I asked before buying it. The mealworm feeder is a good idea. Thanks Richard. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
